The National House Project supports young people leaving care to live independently. Its Care Leavers National Movement is made up of care leavers from local House Projects who meet regularly to come up with new ideas to improve things for young people.

We were delighted to be part of the Foundling Museum’s roundtable with The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on Wednesday 19 January 2022, to highlight current issues surrounding our young people leaving care, share our perspective of the challenges our care leavers face and the opportunities that are available in improving their futures.

Staff experiences of working with unaccompanied asylum seeking young people
Staff experiences of working with unaccompanied asylum seeking young people within a trauma-informed framework at the National House Project: An Exploratory Qualitative Study. This small-scale study was carried out by Royal Hollaway University between November 2023 and January 2024. Semi-structured interviews with ten staff members from NHP and LHP’s were undertaken and explored their experiences of using a trauma informed practice framework to support asylum seeking young people.

NHP celebrated National Care Leavers Week (NCLW) 2024 with an engaging lineup of awareness raising events and activities. Adopting the theme CARE - Celebrate, Amplify, Raise, Encourage - NHP encouraged the community to recognise care leavers, amplify their voices, raise awareness of their unique challenges, and advocate for policy changes to support them.
